  • Atmospheric dynamics: baroclinic waves, tropical cyclones, stratospheric dynamics
  • Great Lakes research: coupling of the NOAA weather and lake models
  • Machine Learning techniques for atmospheric models
  • Variable-resolution and Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) techniques for weather and climate models
  • Development of idealized test cases for dynamical cores of General Circulation Models (GCMs)
  • Physics-Dynamics coupling in GCMs
  • Dynamical core intercomparisons: The Dynamical Core Model Intercomparison Project (see DCMIP-2016and DCMIP-2012)
  • Subgrid-scale processes in the dynamical cores of GCMs: The impact of diffusion, filters and fixers on climate simulations
  • Idealized simulations of the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) and Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSWs), stratospheric dynamics
  • Parallel and high-performance computing
