  • Convection-allowing, variable-resolution, and Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) techniques for weather and climate models
  • Development of idealized test cases for dynamical cores of General Circulation Models (GCMs)
  • Physics-Dynamics coupling in GCMs
  • Impact of volcanic eruptions on the atmospheric circulation
  • Dynamical core intercomparisons: The Dynamical Core Model Intercomparison Project (see DCMIP-2016and DCMIP-2012)
  • Subgrid-scale processes in the dynamical cores of GCMs: The impact of diffusion, filters and fixers on climate simulations
  • Idealized simulations of the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) and Sudden Stratospheric Warmings (SSWs)
  • Parallel and high-performance computing
  • Modern numerical methods, equation sets (non-hydrostatic, deep-atmosphere), and computational grids for dynamical cores, finite volume techniques, conservation laws
