Please note: You must be a current University of Michigan student to be admitted into the SUGS program.
Students interested in completing their undergraduate and master’s level education in five years have three uniquely designed programs to select from:
In our increasingly technical world, master’s degrees are becoming the minimum accepted level of education in the industry. Our SUGS programs offer breadth, depth and hands-on experience in the area you select and optimizes your career opportunities. The SUGS program can open doors that a BSE degree alone cannot.
SUGS students are allowed to double count six or nine credit hours, depending upon which SUGS program chosen, and transfer up to six credit hours from their undergraduate program toward their graduate program. Each degree is awarded upon completion of that program’s requirements. A minimum of 128 credits is required for the BSE plus an additional 30 or 31 credits for the Master’s degree. Students typically apply to the SUGS program in their senior year but should consider meeting with an advisor as early as possible.
The MEng in Applied Climate is a professional degree designed for students whose interests lie in applying a basic understanding of climate science to engineered solutions requiring: adaptation to intensities and frequencies of extremes of weather associated with regional climate change, and mitigation of regional and global climate change through actions such as altered emission of short- and long-lived radiatively active gases and aerosols.
Developed with Aerospace Engineering, the Space Engineering SUGS program teaches the systems approach to conceiving, designing, managing and operating complex space systems and provides you with practical experience in space system design, project development and management — the very combination of knowledge and skills that the space industry is looking for when hiring new engineers.
SUGS/Master of Science in Atmospheric/Space Science Program
The SUGS program is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of atmospheric/space science and the various components of each system and to increase your depth of knowledge beyond the bachelor degree level in an atmospheric or space related discipline.
