Prof. Tamas Gombosi to receive AGU John Adam Fleming Medal

Prestigious honor conferred for “original research and technical leadership.”

The Department of Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering is very pleased to announce that Prof. Tamas Gombosi is the recipient of the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) prestigious 2020 John Adam Fleming Medal.

The Fleming Medal is given each year in recognition of “…original research and technical leadership in geomagnetism, atmospheric electricity, aeronomy, space physics, and/or related sciences.”

“This is a great honor,” said Prof. Gombosi.

Gombosi, who is the Konstantin I. Gringauz Distinguished University Professor of Space Science and the Rollin M. Gerstacker Endowed Professor of Engineering, will be presented with the award at a special online celebration during the AGU Fall Meeting,on Wednesday, December 9.

In announcing the 2020 honors, AGU President Robin Bell said “These honorees—scientists, leaders, educators, journalists, and communicators—have made outstanding achievements and contributions to the Earth and space sciences community. These individuals embody our shared vision of a thriving, sustainable, and equitable future for all powered by discovery, innovation, and action. These honorees have built their work with integrity, respect, diversity, and collaboration together with deep engagement in education and outreach.”
