Celebration Recognizes Students and Alumni Published as First Authors

U-M Climate and Space holds the annual First Authors Celebration in April.

On April 10, 2025, the University of Michigan Department of Climate and Space held the First Authors Celebration, to honor students and recent graduates who have published their first academic paper as a lead author.

Students, faculty and staff gathered in the CSRB Auditorium to listen as the authors gave a brief presentation of their work. They answered questions about their research topics and then accepted certificates of achievement from Department Chair Tuija Pulkkinen. This special edition of the CLASP Seminar Series was led by faculty members Shasha Zou and Adriana Raudzens Bailey.

The newest lead authors and their published research include:

• Vivian Cribb, “Solar Wind Drivers of Auroral Omega Bands”

• Weihao Liu, “Physics-Based Simulation of the 2013 April 11 Solar Energetic Particle Event”

• Erika Hathaway, “The Importance of Extended Metrics in Validation, using a Space Weather Modeling Framework Conductance Model”

• Elizabeth Wraback, “Simulating Compressive Stream Interaction Regions during Parker Solar Probe’s First Perihelion Using Stream-aligned Magnetohydrodynamics”

• Dinan Bai, “Calibration of the Polarimetric GNSS-R Sensor in the Rongowai Mission”

Congratulations to these authors!
