CLASP Faculty Awards Spring 2021

Two Climate & Space faculty receive awards

College of Engineering awards cite significant contributions, accomplishments, and sustained excellence.

The Department of Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering is very pleased to announce that two faculty members will receive awards from the U-M College of Engineering.

Associate Professor Gretchen Keppel-Aleks has been selected to receive the Departmental Faculty Award for 2020-21, which is conferred for a high impact accomplishment in some meritorious area benefiting the Department and the College. The award comes with a financial stipend.

From the award citation: “During the last few years, Dr. Keppel-Aleks has made significant contributions to carbon cycle-climate interactions, and remote sensing of atmospheric trace gases and vegetation properties. She also received the Kavli Fellow and NASA Group Achievement Award in 2018. Her accomplishments have a positive impact on the CLaSP development and she is the CLASP 2021 Departmental Award recipient.”

Associate Research Scientist Jim Raines has been selected to receive the Kenneth M. Reese Outstanding Research Scientist Award for 2020-21, which is conferred for demonstrated sustained excellence in research and related scholarly activities. The award comes with a financial stipend.

From the award citation: “…[we thank Dr. Raines] for extraordinary contributions to excellence here at the College of Engineering.”
