  • Interdisciplinary Scientist, NASA Dynamics Explorer Mission, a two spacecraft to explore the coupling between near-Earth space and the upper atmosphere
  • Guest Investigator, Anomalous Particle Tracer Experiment/Charge Composition Explorer (AMPTE/CCE) Mission, a joint NASA/ESA spacecraft mission that flew in the region of the radiation belts collecting information on magnetic storms, substorms and solar wind entry on the dayside of Earth

  • Discovered that subauroral electron temperature enhancement, produced through collisions with radiation belt ions, is regulated by interesting feed-back mechanisms
  • Showed that heating thermal ions in plasmasphere by radiation belts is two-step process
  • Combined observations and simulations to establish that several previously unappreciated mechanisms (ion drifts to the dayside magnetopause, precipitation into the atmosphere and abrupt changes in ring current source population) could account for rapid time-scale changes in strength of Earth's ring current/radiation belt
  • Discovered through simulations and observations that a remarkable increase in ring current intensity is produced by superdense plasma sheets
