I am interested in studying various aspects of the magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling which can help improve present space weather prediction capabilities.

My present research investigates the accurate prediction of the ionospheric conductance in global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) models, using statistical and physics-based methods towards better prediction of ground induced currents (GICs). GICs are one aspect of space weather, and occur due to local magnetic perturbations caused by a variety of magnetospheric and ionospheric currents. I am presently working on the statistical quantification of the ionospheric conductance using assimilative data, and validating them against observations by ISRs, in-situ and ground-based measurements.

Personal Introduction

I am a second year PhD student in Space Sciences and Engineering, jointly advised by Prof. Daniel Welling and Prof. Michael Liemohn. I am from an Aerospace background, and a long list of events and interests helped me into space physics. My previous experience has been predominantly in gas dynamics and computational fluid dynamics. My primary interests are in understanding terrestrial magnetosphere dynamics and the input of the ionosphere during space weather events that are harmful to man-made technology.

I am also a patron of Indian classical music and an ardent classical singer (Hindustani classical, Rabindrasangeet, Bengali folk, Bollywood). I have received vocal training (4th year Diploma) in Hindustani classical and Rabindrasangeet singing since high school, and still try to pursue my musical interests to whatever extent possible.
