Title: "Airborne Measurement Platform for Greenhouse Gas Observations”

Abstract: In situ measurements of greenhouse and pollutant gases using aircrafts provide high precision and high spatial resolution snapshots of the region under investigation. In a recent campaign along the east coast of the United States a suite of instruments flew onboard a NOAA Twin Otter to quantify CH4, CO2, CO, C2H6, H2O, O3 concentrations, along with meteorological (wind, temperature, relative humidity) and flight data (altitude, location, etc.) over 20 research flights and 120 flight hours. In this seminar, the role of aircraft observations in greenhouse gas and air pollutant estimates, measurement considerations, and an overview of the instrumentation will be discussed. Preliminary results from the East Coast Outflow (ECO) experiment, with a focus on urban emissions, will also be presented.
