Staff member John Eder receives Judith A. Pitney Staff Service Career Award
From Depertment Chair Professor James Slavin:

I am very happy to announce that longtime Climate & Space and Space Physics Research Laboratory (SPRL) staff member John Eder has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Judith A. Pitney Staff Service Career Award.

The College of Engineering’s Judith A. Pitney Staff Service Career Award was established in 2006 to recognize the significant contributions of a single staff member with a minimum of ten years of service in the College. Recipients of the Judith A. Pitney Staff Service Career Award are chosen on the basis of their exemplary work and unique achievements.

John has a sustained and unwavering record of excellence in service at the University of Michigan. He has served as Quality Assurance Manager for the Space Physics Research Laboratory (SPRL), and as Laboratory Safety Manager, as well as other roles, for both SPRL and the Department of Climate and Space Sciences and Engineering (CLaSP) in a career that has spanned more than four decades.

John Eder has made a lasting impact among his colleagues, students, and co-workers. He retired this year, and the department will be hard-pressed to find a replacement with the dedication and commitment to excellence that John has brought to our department.

The award honors Judith Pitney, who served as executive director of CoE Resource Planning and Management from 1992 – 2006, as an acknowledgment of the exceedingly high standards she engendered across the College. Consideration is given to nominees who have made significant contributions or possess special qualities and attributes. Award recipients receive an individual cash award of $5,000, a framed award citation, and recognition at the upcoming CoE Excellence in Staff Service Award event in Chesebrough Auditorium.

Please join me in congratulating John on this well-deserved honor.

Congratulations, John!
