Dr. Justin Edmondson Gives Solar Eclipse Presentation to U-M Football Team U-M Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh (l), Dr. Justin Edmondson (r)

This past Monday, Climate & Space researcher Dr. Justin Edmondson was invited to give a special presentation on the 2017 Solar Eclipse to Coach Jim Harbaugh and the U-M football squad.

The event took place at Michigan Stadium, included the football team, coaching staff, and their families and friends. Dr. Edmondson explained what happens during a solar eclipse, when we can expect to see the next solar event in North America, and the importance of safe viewing.

During the actual eclipse event, attendees watched it happen from the field at Michigan Stadium. Technicians also displayed the NASA feed on the stadium electronic scoreboards to give a close-up view as the eclipse progressed.

Coach Harbaugh and the Michigan football team enjoyed their once-in-a-lifetime experience, and by all accounts no one was more excited about the eclipse than the head coach himself. His son, James Harbaugh, Jr., was also on hand for the event, and later tweeted that he and his father were “Attacking the eclipse with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind!”

Kudos to Dr. Edmondson for bringing the science behind the eclipse to the gridiron! Go Blue!
